It has got other name too i.e Gasa Tashi Tongmon dzong. The dzong is built in the year 17th century by Tenzin Drukdra.The Dzong was constructed as a bulwark against attacks from the north and named Tashi Tongmön Dzong. It was later expanded by the fourth Desi, Gyalse Tenzin Rabgye and he kept the name as Gasa dzong. It is mainly for administrative office and headquarter of Gasa District.
A group of monks led by the Drapey Lopon visits Gasa to make annual offerings to the deities in the last week of the 10th month of the Bhutanese calendar every year. A Bon master also takes part in the celebrations.
As other dzongs every year tshechu is held and every local people visit and cherish the moment. Dances are performed by monks wearing masks on their faces, conveying certain significant religious stories about buddhist .
